Wooly Sock Axe

Here’s a project that I’ve been wanting to do for a while. I’ve seen the Best Made Co. axes and wanted to design my own version.

So I found a ‘raw’ axe produced by Snow & Nealley, I love the heritage Hudson Bay head on it. After stripping off the varnish, sanding out the Snow & Nealley branding, I stained it and then customized the handle with my interpretation of a classic wooly work sock. The grey on the handle doesn’t want to photograph well but it’s a dark grey with a bit of yellow in it, it looks very vintage military.

Boot It Up • A Benefit for Sketch

Over fifty ad agencies, artists and celebrities were each given a pair of Blundstone boots and askedto do something creative with them. The entries were then judged, ranked and auctioned off to raise money for Sketch, a not-for-profit organization that helps street kids reintegrate through the arts.

This is what we did.

And we won Best of Show.

2008 Yield Holiday Card

holidaycard20081

Every Holiday season agencies toil over directions for the years Holiday client card. Should it be a Christmas card? Should we be the politically correct “Happy Holidays” greeting? Should the card just be seasonal? This year we at Yield decided to combine two greetings into one card. By using the same technique employed by old style 3D glasses we could visually overlap two greetings on one holiday card; one holiday greeting for Jews and another for Christians. The carefully matched colour transparencies of the “Festive Viewer” would then obscure one holiday message while highlighting and revealing the other. By looking through the Jewish side of the viewer, Jews could view a Chanukah greeting and by looking throught the Christian side of the viewer, Christians would see only a Christmas greeting. Being able to target two different demographics with the same piece would demonstrate to our clients that the creative people at Yield are very strategic problem solvers.
